  • Exotic shorthair is a good choice for busy people, busy singles, and people who like calm and relaxing atmosphere at home

LOW MAINTENANCE

Exotics shorthair are sometimes called “the lazy man’s Persian,” because they require only weekly combing, while exotic longhair (Persians) require more intensive grooming. They have a dense undercoat that gives them a puffy appearance. The exotic’s short coat doesn’t get matted or tangled and is typically easy to groom. Comb it once a week to help keep his/her coat beautiful.

LOVE OF LOUNGING

If you are looking for a cat who loves to cuddle, exotics are perfect. They tend to follow their owners around the house and will jump on your lap as much as possible or sit beside you, enjoying your company.  They are well known for no hissing, biting, or scratching the owner.

COMPANIONSHIP

They have sweet emotional ties to owner and family.  Exotics love the companionship of people including children.  They are friendly to other cats, and even dogs.  If you’d like more than one pet, exotics are a good choice as they tend to get along well with others. Exotics are also a good choice for people who are away from home often.

PLAYFUL, CURIOUS AND ACTIVE

Exotics enjoy playing with people and toys. They are active and curious and move around playing and jumping when they’re not sleeping.

QUIET AND PEACEFUL

Exotics rarely speak, but have a pleasant voice and they are affectionate and easy going cats.

SHY TO STRANGERS

Exotics are very affectionate toward their families, but they shy away from strangers. If an exotic meets someone new, it will take a little time for him to feel comfortable around the person.  All guests must be approved by the cat.  It's a joke, or may be not....

SMART AND TRAINABLE

Exotic kittens do everything first: open their eyes, climb out of the box, start eating, etc.  If you have a good relationship, they will understand not just your words, but they will read your thoughts.  Try using a clicker to teach your Exotic tricks like “sit” and "come".

NOT FAT, JUST BIGBONED

With their thick, short-legged bodies, wide necks, and large heads, the Exotic Shorthair looks kind of pudgy. The Exotic can weigh up to 12 pounds, but most of this weight is due to its dense bones, but not because they are fat.

IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO KEEP AN EXOTIC CAT AS AN INDOOR ONLY CAT.

They can't defend themselves against aggressive animals, if they meet stray cats, dogs, coyotes or the other dangers that face cats who go outdoors.
